I am pursuing a goal I’ve had for over 20 years, which has been a dream since I first saw a sailboat on the water; and, we could use your help

About 8 years ago, I had a cerebral aneurysm rupture, which should have killed me. Before that, I had spent a lot of time and effort repairing older, used boats and sailing them; however, none of them got me to my goal of sailing the world. While watching another sailboat build on YouTube recently, I learned that George Buehler had passed away. While I, like many in the DIY sailboat community, was saddened by the loss of such a great adventurer, the way he passed hit too close to home. It frightened me.

I had come awfully close to saying “some day” rather than just getting things done. This is the beginning of moving into gear, and we would like to share that journey with you.

We are building a Scow 650 designed by Jerome Delaunay.

Scow 650

Know what the first rule of [sailing] is? … Love. Can know all the math in the ‘verse but take a boat [out] in the [water] that you don’t love? She’ll shake you off just as sure as a turn in the worlds. Love keeps her in the [water] when she oughta fall down…tell you she’s hurtin’ ‘fore she keens…makes her a home. [paraphrased]
